Las estadísticas del Centro de Exportación e Inversión de la República Dominicana (CEI-RD) indican que entre enero y mayo de este año las exportaciones de ron de caña generaron US$30.3 millones, casi tres veces más que las de cervezas, cuyas ventas sumaron US$10.4 millones en el período.Otro elemento que destacan los números del CEI-RD es que durante el período bajo análisis las exportaciones de ron de caña registraron un crecimiento de 28.1% cuando se compara con las ventas del producto en enero-mayo de 2007 con US$23.6 millones.
A nivel interno la situación es distinta, debido a que la cerveza tiene una demanda mucho mayor que el ron entre los consumidores dominicanos.
Por esa razón, la industria de las cervezas genera más empleos y debe pagar más recursos en impuestos, ya que su presencia local es alta y va en constante crecimiento, de acuerdo con los números que publica la Dirección de Impuestos Internos (DGII) en lo relativo con las recaudaciones por el gravamen selectivo al consumo de bebidas alcohólicas.
